As the weather warms up, it’s so important to protect your skin! I went to Palm Desert on vacation recently, and the sun there is much stronger than in Idaho, so you can bet I took extra steps to take care of my skin.
I always layer on a moisturizer with SPF every morning, and after a long day outdoors hiking, swimming or exploring I like to use an after-sun serum. I don’t know about you, but my face just loves to break out in the warmer temperatures, so I’ll be taking my Yes to Tomatoes spot stick with me everywhere!

Happy Earth Week! What a wonderful time to get out and give back to this beautiful planet. Whether you’re helping “paint the town” like a big group of volunteers in Boise do, or gathering trash from the side of the road… do something for Mother Nature this week while you celebrate the Earth!
I spent the last week in Palm Desert and it was my goal to be outside and experience nature as much as possible. I hiked through Joshua Tree National Park, and what did I notice most? The natural beauty of the earth and the lack of trash. There wasn’t any to be found!
I also visited The Living Desert, and observed many desert-dwelling animals and their climates. In my mind, there’s nothing better to do during Earth Week than take a hike and just get away from the computer!
This week, whether you’re outside making this world a better place or just experiencing something new, make sure you layer on that sun block to protect your skin! When you’re finished moisturizing with your mini Yes To Body Butter, use the cute little container to store to-go items like bobby pins, hair ties or even vitamins.

At Yes To, they’re all about helping people feel their best, not just with amazing products, but with giving back to the community… so let’s talk about being our best, in honor of our favorite brand!
Two months ago, I shared a couple New Year’s resolutions that I was holding on to with all my might. Mine pertained to the skin and hair care departments, but the prospect of a new year and new beginnings often brings with it some bigger goals, like losing a couple extra pounds, running a marathon, or even just joining a gym.
Now that we’re two months down the line—and we’ve made it past Valentine’s Day and all the chocolate, candy and cookies that goes with it—it’s time to look back and re-visit those goals. Have you been keeping up with them? Have you accomplished some? Have you been backsliding a bit (or a lot)?
Here are some tips to keep motivated, to help you achieve your fit-body, and to possibly even inspire you to take that single first step that could change your life forever. Let’s say YES to getting fit!
1. Just do it. I know that’s an overused and over-hyped term… but seriously, just do it. If you’re hesitant to join a gym, that’s OK. Maybe try walking a lap around your neighborhood, doing some sit-ups between commercial breaks, or just opting to park farther out in the parking lot. You don’t have to go to a gym to get a good workout, in fact, some of my best ones are at home! If I’m in a time-crunch, I’ll do a quick walk or bike ride around my neighborhood (yes, even in winter), and then do a couple quick exercises in my driveway—and if you find you have nosy neighbors, invite them to join! A quick 15-30 minute heart-rate elevation is always the best way to start off my morning or finish my workday.
Yes To tip: Don’t forget to pack a couple Yes to cleansing towelettes in your bag for after your workout—they get rid of sweat and grime while brightening and rejuvenating!
2. If you’ve made the effort to set your alarm or you’ve said you’re going to do it, but you never actually get around to it—grab a buddy. Whether it’s your friend, a personal trainer at the gym, a sibling, a coworker, or even your dog… have someone there to keep you accountable. If someone is depending on you, it makes it a lot harder to say no. Plus, how could you say no to that cuddly face?

3. Have fun! You know what they say, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” so don’t think I’m encouraging you to dedicate your life to the gym. One of my favorite things about being the Yes To Stylista is learning all about the influence behind Yes To, the desires to being healthy, and all their efforts to help people be their best and to make the world a better place. They say YES to being the best you.
The bottom line? Do what you enjoy, eat the foods you love, and spend a little bit of time bettering yourself each day. You’ll be surprised at how much you like the new you!
As we approach Valentine’s Day, so many people think about their “loved one,” … or lack thereof. For me, February is a time where I get to spread a little extra love to all the people I love—and let’s face it, there isn’t much that tops a relaxing day in with your best girlfriend. If it’s going to be cold and snowy outside (it is in Idaho, anyway), you may as well make the best of it by staying home and having a girls-day-in.
This past weekend, I had my bestie, Shaye (who was also one of my bridesmaids at my wedding in December), over for some grapefruit mocktails and at-home-pampering….to celebrate Yes to’s awesome new launch…Yes to Grapefruit!
How to make this mocktail:
Directions: Just add all ingredients, a couple cubes of ice, stir, and garnish with a grapefruit. It was refreshing and just what we needed to kick off our pampering.
While sipping our Grapefruit Fizz’s, we headed to the bathroom to clean off our makeup with the NEW Yes to Grapefruit Brightening Facial Towelettes, so we could apply our soothing masks! We used the Yes to Cucumbers Calming Facial Mask. This was my first time ever using a mask, so Shaye had to show me how it was done. One of my favorite parts about the mask was the cooling and soothing sensation that I got when I put it on. I could actually feel it working.
While we let our masks dry, we goofed off in my bedroom—making funny faces, giggling, arm wrestling (it’s not just for guys), and totally hamming it up. We laughed so hard that our masks started cracking off.

That’s what being girlfriends is all about. We get each other. Hanging out, enjoying each others company, being able to be totally candid and yourself with a person you trust and care about… that is what girlfriends are for. Girlfriends add something special—a little sparkle—to brighten your life. I’m so thankful for my bestie.

Resolutions. Those simple standards we set for ourselves every New Year, which never end up being so simple—or easy to keep. This year, I’m setting some New Year’s Resolutions that I know I can follow.
When it comes to making changes, every time I try to cut something out, like pop or fast food, I usually end up eating/drinking more pop and fast food than before I made the commitment. This year, I’m making changes in the two beauty departments that I know can use some work, and where I know I won’t let myself down—hair and skin care.

Oh, the holidays. That magical time of year where we string up lights on the tree, greet our friends and family with hugs and treats and enjoy our favorite dessert, fruitcake. Just kidding about the fruitcake.
Holidays are also the time of year when everyone has a party. Whether it’s a holiday office luncheon, a family Christmas gathering, or a New Year’s bash, the chances are—you’ve got parties to attend. As your Yes To Stylista, I’m here to bring you a couple new holiday hairstyles that can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on the occasion.
For both styles, I began with the Yes To Carrots Scalp Relief Shampoo & Conditioner. I live in Idaho and our desert climate does a lot of drying damage to my scalp and hair during the winter months, so this is my go-to regimen when my hair is feeling a little itchy and like it needs to be refreshed. After the shower, I always use the Yes To Carrots Leave-In Conditioner to make sure I’m sealing in that moisture and preventing my ends from drying out.
First, let’s discuss the low side-ponytail. For the holidays, my easiest hair trick is to add an accessory. Whether it’s a headband, a jeweled bobby pin, a flower, or a bow—accessories are sure to brighten even the simplest of hairstyles. For look number one, I paired a low side-ponytail with a bright and sparkly red-bow headband. For fun, I made the low side-ponytail a topsy tail by tugging on my ponytail to loosen it, creating a little gap right above the ponytail holder, and pulling the ponytail through it, creating that favorite throw-back hairstyle that adds a little pop to any simple pony.
For Holiday style number two, I’m going back to my go-to, the twist and pin. This is the same style (just higher) that I did for my wedding day. But—this style also has a fun twist, a Dutch braid up the back. To do this style, I began by curling my hair with an overnight method I refer to as the “Friar Tuck,” though, you can curl your hair any way you prefer. After it was curled, I flipped my head upside down, Dutch braided (like a French braid only with the hair going under instead of over) the bottom half of my hair, tied that off with a small clear elastic, and then gathered all my hair in a ponytail at the top of my head. I began pinning pieces (three for the top half and three for the bottom half), until I had twisted and pinned all the pieces of the ponytail. I added a couple extra bobby pins to pin the loose ends and to make it look a little more full. I finished the look with a bright red bow to add that holiday flair. To tame some of the fly-aways that the hairspray doesn’t catch, I smoothed some Yes To Carrots Anti-Frizz Serum between my fingers and touched up the pieces that wouldn’t stay down. I finished the whole look with a veil of hairspray and a bright green scarf to really get me into that Christmas spirit.
These two styles can be dressed up or down as you like. If you don’t want to add a bow, try a flower or a sparkly clip. If you don’t get it right the first time, play around. This second hairstyle always looks different when I do it, and that’s the fun part. Happy Holidays!

Just a short month ago, Yes To Carrots announced that I was their next Yes To Stylista. Me. The small-town Idaho girl named Annelise Driflot. To say that I was blown away would be an understatement. I may have even cried a little—or a lot—depending on who you ask. Just kidding, ask anyone. I cried a lot.
On my blog, I’m known for being the girl who is “not.” If you’d ask my amazing readers, they’d tell you that I don’t share any recipes, DIY projects, or adorable photos of chubby-cheeked babies with them. In other words, I’m not a Pinterest chef, I don’t craft, and I’m not a mom… yet.
See, I threw in that last little word “yet” for a very specific reason. On December 1st, yes this December 1st of 2012, I was married to my oh-so-handsome husband, and became Annelise Rowe. We’ve only been married eleven days and I don’t think it’s possible for me to be any happier, though I’ve heard it only gets better from here.
Now—back to that “yet”—since I was just recently married, I’m expecting many of the things I’m not known for will begin to slowly appear on my blog. As you know, when Yes To Carrots was looking for their next Yes To Stylista, they wanted a girl who was all about hair. Despite not being crafty, I will admit, I can put together quite the hairstyle or two. I’m not a trained hairstylist, nor do I claim to be an expert on the matter, but hair tends to be something that I like to have fun with.
As my wedding day approached, my friends all wanted to know who was doing my hair. I told them plain and simple—I am. Before the wedding day, I asked my readers which style they preferred in a “Wedding Hair Ideas” post. Though I had an idea about which style would work best with my dress, I wanted to put my ideas out there to get a feel for what everyone else thought, too. My readers, friends and family agreed with me, the Pinned Updo was the way to go.
What’s great about the Pinned Updo is that it’s never the same. Oh, and don’t forget the fact that it’s so easy. All this simple updo takes is some bobby pins, a teasing comb, and hairspray.
I began my hair that morning by washing and conditioning with the Yes To Blueberries Healthy Hair Repair Regimen. I love the subdued fresh scent of the shampoo and the way the conditioner really locks the moisture into my hair. Then, I blow dried my hair. After the blow dry, I had my friend (since I’m not the best at curling my hair), curl my naturally stick-straight hair with a curling rod, creating pretty, wavy curls. When she was finished, I teased the crown of my hair with my teasing comb, using a bit of hairspray to keep it in place. For the first pins, I took the front pieces of my hair that hang next to my bangs and twisted them back, securing them at the back of my head with bobby pins where a low half-ponytail would sit. I repeated that four times, making four twists (two on each side) that joined together at the back to make the Twisted Half Up featured in my Wedding Hair Ideas post. Next, I simply took a piece of hair, twisted it once or twice, and pinned it at the back of my head, creating a little pouf of hair. I repeated that process 8-10 times, until all my hair was pinned into little poufs. Then, I pinned the ends that were sticking out. After all of my hair was pinned where I wanted it, I went through and gently tugged each pouf, making them appear a little more full. I finished by straightening my bangs and spraying a veil (or three) of hairspray over the updo. The Pinned Updo lasted all day and ended up having about 20 bobby pins total.
Though I know written directions aren’t always the most user-friendly, what I recommend with wedding hair is simple—have fun. Play around, either with your hairstylist or by yourself, and test out new ideas and options. By tinkering with my hair in my bathroom one Saturday afternoon, I discovered this style and fell in love with it. It’s not only appropriate for a wedding, but for a holiday party, a black-tie event, or even a nice date out on the town. Also, if you’re looking for something with a bit more oomph, add a few fresh flowers, some pearl pins, or a birdcage veil for an exquisite wedding updo.

A braided hairstyle, whether it’s a small braid to hold back my bangs or a Dutch braided updo, they’re the easiest way to add pop to a look. I pair this fun hairstyle with a scarf, a simple tee and skinny jeans for a look that’s entirely me.
3.) Who is your celebrity icon?
Lauren Conrad! Whenever I need hair inspiration, she’s the first person I turn to. From updo’s to red-carpet glam, she has all the right looks.
4) What’s one hair care tip everyone can learn from?
If your hair is damaged and needs a break, give it a break! I went a full year without teasing, hairspray, dyeing or frying my hair. All I used was shampoo, conditioner, and dabble of leave-in conditioner—then I let my hair air dry everyday. My hair grew longer and stronger, and I feel in love with my new carefree ‘do.
